Fellowships: Sub-regions of Our Parish
What are Fellowships?
As St. Anselm has grown, we have realized that in order to take the message and work of Jesus Christ into our neighborhoods, we need sub-regions of our congregation.
The entire region that our congregation serves is called a “Parish.” Sub-regions of a Parish in are called “Fellowships” in the Anglican structure. These are mini-congregations. They are neighborhood gatherings for those who want to worship, study, and do outreach together, but can’t drive to the main church for a weeknight. Within each regions are:
Social Activities (brunches, fires, game nights, trivia)
Bible and Book Studies
Outreach and Mission Events (Laura’s Home, Lakewood Alive, Refugee Tea, YMCA)
There are always regular meetings going on midweek. If you’ve ever been a part of something like this, you’ll probably find that our groups are not that different. Ours have a little Anglican twist. We incorporate one of the services from the Book of Common Prayer reading God’s Word and praying for our needs and the needs of others, talk a bit and then have a conversation about the Bible or a book. Each group is led by a pair of leaders called a “Catechist” which is a historical church word for “teacher”.

Lay Catechists
Lay Catechists assist the clergy with communication, teaching, and care of people in the Fellowships. One Catechist is prepared to lead discussion while the other assists with the needs of the group and looks outward to the rest of the Fellowship.
